Terms of Use
Version 2026-08-13
What you agree to when you use piato. Short, and in plain words.
What piato is
piato is a small app for tracking what you eat from photographs. You take a picture of your food and piato estimates what was in it.
It is an invite-only personal project, not a company product. It costs nothing, and there is no promise that it will still be running next year.
piato is not medical advice
WARNING: piato can be wrong about your food. Do not use it to manage a medical condition, and do not use it instead of a doctor or a dietitian.
piato estimates. It does not measure. The numbers come from a computer model that reads your photographs, and a model can misjudge a portion, miss an ingredient, or misread a label.
Your daily targets come from a standard formula applied to the height, weight, age and activity you entered. That formula describes an average of many bodies. It does not describe yours.
If you are pregnant, if you are under medical treatment, or if you have a history of disordered eating, speak to a professional before you change how you eat.
Your account
You need an invite from someone already using piato. One account belongs to one person.
You must be 18 or older.
Do not share your account or your sign-in link. Sign-in is a link sent to your email address, so anyone who can read your email can sign in as you. Keep that mailbox secure.
What you put in
Your photographs, your notes and your numbers stay yours. You give piato permission to store them and to send them for analysis, only so that the app can do the thing you asked it to do.
Photograph your own food. Do not upload photographs of other people without their permission.
Do not use piato to break a law, to attack the service, or to reach another person’s data.
Other members see part of your day
piato has a community screen. Everyone else using piato can see the name you chose, how close you came to your targets today, and how many days you logged this week.
Nobody sees your email address, your weight, your photographs, or what you ate. The Privacy Notice explains this in full.
You can stop, and it can stop
You can delete your account at any time. Write to privacy@piato.me. Everything goes, photographs included, and it cannot be undone.
An account that breaks these terms, or that puts other people at risk, can be closed.
piato is provided as it is. It may be unavailable, it may lose data, and it may end. So far as the law allows, piato is not liable for any loss that follows from using it.
When these terms change
New wording means a new version. When one is published, piato asks you to accept it before you carry on.
The version you accepted, and the day you accepted it, stay on record.
Which law applies
These terms follow the law of Italy.
Nothing here takes away a right that consumer law in your own country gives you.
